Because they’re an easy target but according to JD Power’s 2015 dependability survey, they’re doing pretty damn good it seems. Kudos to Lexus, least amount of problems so far.

Kinja'd!!!

Land Rover way down at the bottom, that's a shocker.

Buick has been second to Lexus for a LONG time. They should really advertise this. There’s still a misguided public perception about Buick.

Funny you bring up the JD survey.

Kinja'd!!!

I’m really curious about owning a Jag since unsurprisingly they are usually near the bottom on reliability but are consistently at the top when it comes to satisfaction. I wonder why.

They didn't even bother listing them on the dependability chart. Probably always satisfied because awesome cars and good service at dealers.

Is it just me or does even 89 problems/100 vehicles seem really high?

I forgot the name of this theory or where I heard it, but isn’t there some sort of psychological thing where the more you spend on something the more you tell yourself you’re happy with it? I am totally guilty of this with my car, it’s pretty great overall but I find it hard to be critical about valid shortcomings.

I really don't like Buick. I think the Regal GS is pretty awesome and the Verano is ok but the rest are lame.

May be the lowest on this chart but you're right it is still a very high number.

What does it mean problems per 100 vehicles? Does it mean 89/100 Lexus have a problem? Does every Jeep have 2 problems? I know that can’t be right but what does it mean?

That’s fine, but Buick has a selling feature they never bother advertising.

The only ones that really surprise me are Cadillac, Lincoln, Kia, and Hyundai.

seems like stockholm syndrome. I’d agree that works in regards to people loving classic English and Italian cars. “It only works twice a year, but those are the best days ever”

Buick GM doesn’t ever both advertising. Don't think they ever will.

So Jags are holding their owners hostage who then slowly come round to the Jag’s way of thinking. Gonna say that makes no sense but nah that sounds very Jag like.

It is really like some sort of abusive relationship, sure it’s left you stranded, put you in danger and costs you thousands and thousands of dollars, but things were so good that time a few months ago. If you just work on it a bit more, it’ll be different!

It just means that out of every 100 vehicles, a certain amount of problems have been found. So out of 100 Lexus vehicles, 89 problems have been found. Problems can include things such as Bluetooth not recognizing phones, etc.

it doesn't necessarily affect every vehicle.

There’s lots of Buick advertising. It’s just Shaq looking cramped in a Buick filmed with a fisheye lens. woo.

They're still above industry average, not by much though. Not as bad as BMW, who's just barely above the average.

Allow me to rephrase my statement.

GM doesn’t ever bother making good advertisements.

To tell the truth, I was quite surprised to see Cadillac so high up the list.

Surprising to see Volvo so low as well.

VAG products are usually fine for the first owner/100k miles. It’s when age and miles add up that people get nervous about them.

Well for one you’re riding around in a car most people couldn’t afford. Some people are really into that. Secondly, the attention you get it positive from complete strangers. Admiration and envy. Thirdly, you are so well off that you can AFFORD to drive something unreliable and it not cost you your job, etc., things us havenots would have to deal with.

So the car isn’t really the source of happiness per se. Their car is just a byproduct of their existing wealth and stability.

It’s ok that you have a hard time being critical of your car because it already gets ragged on enough haha! I don’t find it hard to critique my cars, I’d go as far as saying that my Jetta is most likely pretty shitty compared to other cars in its class.
